Blessed Obedience

"And if you faithfully obey the voice of the LORD your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the LORD your God." -Deuteronomy 28:1-2

Getting into your car to see a full tank of gas when you left only drops in it the last time you parked is just such a wonderful surprise. The following was the exchange that followed once I had learned of such a gift waiting for me at the end of the driveway....
Me: "Thanks for filling up the tank Dad!"
Dad: "Thanks for letting me barrow your car"
Me: "Uhh, ummm...."
Dad: "It would have been hard to fill the tank without it"
Me: "Hmm, there's something deeper to that...this is going to show up on the blog once I figure it out"

Isn't this how God operates? We do absolutely nothing to deserve his blessings. He asks us to hand over our lives in full obedience then blesses them in return. Just like it works best to fill the tank if you're able to take the actual car, God's design is that we hand over our lives so that he can fill up our hearts. Praise the Lord for blessing obedience and being faithful to fill when we're willing to surrender!
